Why Homeschool in Nevada?

Nevada is one of the most homeschool-friendly states in the nation, offering families the freedom to tailor their children’s education to their unique needs and goals. With minimal state oversight and regulation, parents have the flexibility to choose their curriculum, teaching style, and educational path, ensuring their children receive a high-quality, personalized education.

Understand Nevada’s Homeschooling Laws

Nevada law requires that you provide instruction in math, science, social studies, and English (parents have full freedom to choose their teaching methods and curriculum).

Nevada does not require standardized testing, teacher qualifications, or government-approved curricula, making it one of the least restrictive states for homeschooling.

Keep a copy of the Notice of Intent as proof of compliance.

Find a Homeschool Co-op

One of the best ways to enrich your homeschool journey is by connecting with other families through homeschool co-ops, support groups, and local meetups. Co-ops provide opportunities for group learning, socialization, and field trips, while offering parents a support network.

Why We Believe in Homeschooling

At NHA, we believe homeschooling offers far more than just academic flexibility, it provides families with the priceless gift of time together. Homeschooling allows parents to impart their values, nurture a strong family culture, and create deep, lasting relationships with their children. Instead of being separated for the majority of the day, families have the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience life together in a meaningful way.

Homeschooling fosters critical thinking skills, independent learning, creativity, and a love for discovery, all while strengthening the bonds that matter most. We also believe that when parents take an active role in their children’s education, it leads to stronger communities and a brighter future for Nevada as a whole.

To legally homeschool a child between the ages of 6-18 in Nevada, you must file a Notice of Intent to Homeschool (NOI) with your local school district. If your child is currently enrolled in Nevada public school, you must first formally withdraw them in writing to the principal at your child’s school. No later than 10 days after that notification, file the NOI. Each county in Nevada may have different requirements, contacts, or submission methods.

A Message from Our Founder

I founded the Nevada Homeschool Association because I saw a critical need for a support, organization, and resources for homeschooling families in our state. While homeschooling provides unparalleled freedom, many parents struggle to find guidance, a connected community, and a clear path forward. Nevada lacked a centralized hub where homeschoolers could access legal information, curriculum guidance, and a strong, values-aligned network of families. I wanted to change that. NHA was built to equip parents with the tools and confidence they need, to foster a thriving homeschool community, and to ensure that every family has access to the support they deserve.
