The Nevada Homeschool Association exists to unite, empower, and advocate for homeschooling families throughout the state of Nevada.

Who We Are

The Nevada Homeschool Association (NHA) was founded to serve as a statewide hub of support, resources, and advocacy for homeschooling families. We believe that every parent should have the tools, community, and confidence to take charge of their child’s education. NHA exists to unite, empower, and advocate for homeschooling families throughout Nevada, ensuring they have access to reliable information, meaningful community, and legislative awareness to homeschool with confidence.

Our Initiatives:

Our mission is to unite, empower, and advocate for Nevada’s homeschool families by:

  • Providing accurate guidance on Nevada’s homeschooling laws and requirements.
  • Offering curriculum guidance, compliance support, and live assistance for parents navigating homeschooling.
  • Traveling statewide to bring educational trainings through our Whistle Stop Tours directly to homeschool families in their communities.
  • Creating a webinar series to bring free trainings to all homeschool families in the comfort of their own home.
  • Creating leadership conferences, local meetups, and networking opportunities for homeschoolers.
  • Keeping families informed on legislative updates that could impact homeschool freedoms.

Why We Started NHA

Nevada’s homeschooling community was in need of a centralized resource. A place where families could come together, find trusted guidance, and connect with like-minded homeschoolers. We recognized the gaps in support, including:

  • Lack of easily accessible homeschool resources.
  • An essential need for robust advocacy for homeschool freedoms in the ever-evolving educational landscape.
  • Limited opportunities for homeschool families to connect and build relationships, particularly in rural areas.

NHA was created to fill these gaps and provide the comprehensive support Nevada homeschool families deserve.

We are proud to be recognized as the 501(c)(3) statewide organization representing Nevada homeschoolers with the following National organizations:

Meet Our Founder

LeAndra Surprenant, a homeschooling mother of 3 and passionate advocate for parental rights, founded NHA to create the community and structure Nevada homeschoolers were missing. She understands firsthand the challenges and joys of homeschooling and is committed to making sure every family has access to resources, encouragement, and support.

NHA is here to ensure that no homeschool family in Nevada has to navigate this journey alone.

LeAndra brings a strong professional background in business management, development, and accounting to her role as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Nevada Homeschool Association. After relocating to Nevada in 2004 to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, she built a career centered on organizational growth and strategic leadership, experience that now underpins her work in the nonprofit sector. She and her husband Jake are the proud parents of three amazing children. Her homeschooling journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic when her oldest entered kindergarten. What began as a short-term solution quickly developed into a long-term commitment and passion for educational choice. Recognizing the lack of statewide support and resources that challenge Nevada homeschool families, she felt called to take action – leading her to create the Nevada Homeschool Association. Through this organization, she is dedicated to strengthening Nevada’s homeschool community and ensuring that families are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. Beyond her work, LeAndra and her family love to travel—especially cruising! Exploring the world together is another way she blends adventure and learning into their homeschool experience.

Jennifer and her husband, James, have enjoyed over 30 years of marriage, and share a love for traveling to tropical destinations and relaxing lakeside with family and friends. A devoted plant enthusiast, she has earned the affectionate nickname “The Plant Lady” for her flourishing indoor garden. However, her greatest joy has been raising her children and seeing them flourish as adults—a blessing made even sweeter by the arrival of her cherished grandchildren.
